The Ven. James Jones, DD (1730-1823) was Archdeacon of Hereford from 1787〔"Fasti herefordenses, and other antiquarian memorials of Hereford" Havergal,F.T: Edinburgh, R.Clark, 1869〕 until his death.
He was educated at New College, Oxford.〔"Alumni Oxonienses: the Members of the University of Oxford, 1715-1886: Their Parentage, Birthplace, and Year of Birth, with a Record of Their Degrees: E to K Volume 2 p853 (London, Parker & Co,)"〕 Later he was the incumbent at Shinfield and then of St Mary Somerset.〔Ecclesiastical Intelligence The Times (London, England), Thursday, Feb 27, 1823; pg. 4; Issue 11806〕 He died on 29 January 1823:〔Births, Deaths, Marriages and Obituaries The Morning Post (London, England), Tuesday, January 30, 1823; Issue 16186〕
